Abstract
Abstract Varying conditions that are encountered in power-plant substructures are illustrated by discussing the problems that arose in the construction of four power plants at Mexico City, Pekin, Ill., Cincinnati, Ohio, and Chicago, Ill. The first was on soil of low bearing capacity, the second in water-bearing sand with a special cofferdam construction, the third required a deep foundation on water-bearing gravel, and the fourth was on a clay foundation.
