Abstract

The optimal location and placement of distributed generation (DG) in distribution system is an important task in order to get their maximum benefits. Similarly, minimization of power loss is also an key area due to the different networking conditions. This paper introduces an optimization framework to reduce the power loss by optimal integration and sizing of distributed generation. Firstly, loss sensitivity factor (LSF) is calculated in order to identify the optimal position of DG penetration in the system. Secondly, a population-based iterative heuristic optimization technique namely atom search optimization (ASO) is utilized to reduce the power loss in distribution system in an optimal framework by satisfying all the constraints. The proposed work is tested on both 10 bus and 33 bus radial distribution system. The effectiveness of the proposed work is analyzed by considering different case studies in the proposed work.
