Abstract
The problem of voltage collapse, stability issues & real power losses in distribution system is increasing day by day. The performance of power system can be improved by employing distributed generation (DG) in the power system. This paper mainly focussed on DG Placement in Radial Distribution System (RDS). Optimal placements of DG are obtained with respect to real power losses, voltage profile and voltage stability index at every bus. Optimal location of DG placement is found by placing the distributed generation at different location to estimate real power losses and stability index at each location. The location which has minimum power losses and voltage stability index is more suitable DG placement. The load flow analysis algorithm used is Backward Forward Sweep (BFS). Voltage at each bus and real Power Losses are calculated using Load flow analysis. The proposed methodology of BFS is tested on a standard IEEE 33 Bus system. Different parameters such as voltage profile, power losses and stability index at each bus has been calculated with and without DG placement. After comparing the results, it has been found that optimal allocation of DG improves the system efficiency and economy. Significant reduction in power losses has been achieved by using the proposed BFS algorithm.
