Abstract

This article deals with the solar energy - converted to electric energy - that is ideally suited as power source for mobility. It is with respect to land use more efficient than fluid bio-fuels. Thus, the electric energy for mobility might come not only from photovoltaic or wind power plants, but from hydro power stations or other renewable sources. The electricity might be used directly without any transmission losses or fed into a so called "solar-grid system". These solar grid systems need back-up power for the night or other hours without sufficient sunshine and quite a new and decentralized load management system. For the back-up power, the batteries of electric cars might be used. This "vehicle-to-grid- system" is a complete new idea, and new technical and financial models have to be developed. Electric vehicles could provide enough energy storage and energy regulation to the power grid when in use for driving.
