Abstract

Equations are developed for the temperature behavior of a target struck by a particle beam. The temperature change is obtained as a function of time for given beam power, heat capacity, and conductivity. Using thermistors to measure temperature difference, a calorimetric target was developed with a sensitivity of about 5 μW. Such a detector is capable of comparing ion and neutral beams.
