Abstract

The power flow and efficiency of a two-dof epicyclic gear transmission was analysed by means of a framework based on Lagrange multiplier. The power flow diagrams are constructed to verify the balance of normal power flow and virtual power flow within the system. The overall efficiency formula was derived together with a plot against the input speed ratio. The comparison between the theoretical and experimental results validates the framework of analysis. In addition, differences between these results are pointed out for further development of the method.
