Abstract
Significant advances are now being achieved in the quality of crystal‐structure information at high pressure, particularly with powder diffraction techniques, on both neutron and synchrotron sources. A short review is presented of recent progress in angle‐dispersive powder diffraction on synchrotron sources, using an image‐plate area detector. The image‐plate techniques pioneered at the Photon Factory have now been further developed at SRS Daresbury. Recent work at SRS is used to illustrate the gains in data quality achievable with optimized angle‐dispersive techniques.
