Abstract

The revolutionary process in the Arab world is explained by a combination of heterogeneous factors, but religious thought and culture seems to have provided a crucial contribution to this political radical change. Of course the religious dimension is involved at different levels in the Arab political landscape encompassing secular parties as well as the so called « Islamist » movements. The manipulation of the religious doctrine by the political actor and/or power is a common phenomenon and therefore it is necessary to get through the religious doctrinal matrix. The latters’ principle are crucial as they provide the resources for a ethical debate on four main issues: the political regime (whether democratic or not), the individual rights defined and defended by the religious doctrine and their limits, the right to rebel against the unjust ruler and how far a revolutionary initiative can be undertaken without hurting other values (as the protection of human being and properties).
