Abstract

Abstract Potentilla (30 cm high) growing in containers were obtained from a nursery in Lake County, Ohio, and brought to Wooster for evaluation of pesticides against twospotted spider mite. Infested plants were selected randomly and placed in groups of 4 single-plant replicates/treatment. Applications were made with a COa compression sprayer at 40 psi with a single Teejet SS8004 flat-fan nozzle delivering 250 ml of finished spray (to run-off) to each plant. Sprays were applied 27 Aug under sunny skies at 24°C; wind 15 km/h. Treatments were evaluated 3 Sep by removing 5 10- to 15-cm-long terminal shoots from each plant. Samples were processed by passing them through a mite brush 6 times to dislodge mites to a rotating glass plate covered with Tween-20. Dislodged mites were counted with the aid of a binocular dissecting microscope.
