Abstract

Abstract Efficacy of Counter 15G against the potato leafhopper (PLH) was evaluated near Ames, IA. Counter was applied by 3 methods (in-furrow, deep-furrow, and side-dress) to susceptible glabrous and resistant pubescent isolines of var Clark soybeans. Treatments were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. Plots measured 40 ft x 4 rows (30 in centers). Plots were planted on Jun 4. Plants emerged on Jun 11 and side-dress treatments were applied 22-days postemergence. Adults were sampled with a D-Vac vacuum insect sampler (1 ft2 cone) with 8 subsamples/plot at 18, 32, 49, and 68-days postemergence, which corresponded with the 1-trifoliate, 4-trifol iate, beginning bloom, and full pod stages, respectively. PLH nymphs were sampled on the last 3 sample dates by taking two 2 row-ft shake-samples/plot. PHL abundance was converted to numbers/m2 of leaf area.
