Abstract

Cardiac surgery is associated with a risk of organ damage. Among which, cognitive decline following cardiac surgery has drawn great attention in recent years. It is responsible for postoperative recovery and has an influence on the quality of life of the patients. Recent studies on cognitive dysfunction include risk predictor before cardiac surgery, changes of brain function with or without cardiopulmonary bypass, cerebral injury monitoring, long-term outcomes, and cerebral protection methods. In this review, we discuss the relationship between postoperative cognitive decline and cardiac surgery.
