Abstract

In a series of 324 adults who underwent surgery for long standing constant strabismus, 85% developed binocularity as determined with the Bagolini lens almost immediately postoperatively. The vast majority of patients developed binocularity regardless of the type of deviation present preoperatively, duration of the strabismus, or depth of amblyopia (if present) in the deviating eye. The vast majority of adults with constant long standing strabismus will develop a functional improvement if their eyes are satisfactorily aligned.
