Abstract

Objective We describe a case of endometrial tuberculosis where confirmatory biopsy material was obtained by selective resection. The hysteroscopic appearance of tuberculous granulomas is discussed. Subject A 62-year-old woman presented with breakthrough bleeding whilst on hormone replacement therapy. Endometrial biopsy obtained at diagnostic hysteroscopy showed the presence of granulomas on histological examination. At a second hysteroscopy subepithelial nodules were seen and resected. Histological examination confirmed the presence of non-caseating epithelioid granulomas. The Heaf test was strongly positive. Conclusion Tuberculous granulomas can be seen hysteroscopically and selective resection will provide targeted biopsy material to aid diagnosis.
