Abstract

Lattice parameter measurements of BeO specimens irradiated by neutrons showed dimensional changes in the specimens. Petrographic examination of specimens irradiated at 1.0 to 2.8 x 10/sup 21/ nvt fast neutron dosage and at 100 to 965 f C revealed that the indices of refraction were substantially lower than those of normal unirradiated control specimens and were lowest for the specimens irradiated at low temperatures. The BeO specimens were also annealed at periods of 16 to 143 hours. However, prolonged annealing periods did not aiter further properties measured after 16 hour heating periods. The data are tabulated. (P.C.H.)
