Abstract
This paper focuses on reviewing the literature on postgraduate research students and analysing two selected postgraduate centres/institutions. Three factors are emphasised, student's development in research, the utilisation of support system and student-supervisor relationship. These factors reveal students’ expectations and inspirations are directly related to their ability to develop, consume and comprehend all the three factors. There are at least three findings -the understanding of a student's journey of completion, the identification of support system of postgraduate centres and the supervisors’ approaches. These findings will enable supervisors and postgraduate centres alike to develop a better systematic approach for students.
