Abstract
Background: Posterior disc displacement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) has been described before as a rare condition. Among the types of disc displacements previously described in the literature, Posterior disc displacement imaging characteristics still need to be further studied. Clinical presentation: We hereby present two clinical cases, with a more coherent and objective classification of posterior displacement with reduction, partial reduction, and without reduction of the articular disc of the temporomandibular joint. Clinical relevance: The cases here presented our concept of reduction, partial reduction and non-reduction of the articular disc for cases of primary and true Posterior disc displacement.
