Abstract

Abstract. The outcome of ECCE and posterior chamber lens implantation is described in 30 eyes with capsular glaucoma (CG). All eyes had glaucomatous visual field defects. 16 eyes had had preoperative argon laser trabeculoplasty, 5 glaucoma filtering surgery. The mean preoperative IOP was 17.7 mmHg and mean postoperative IOP 16.1 mmHg. Postoperative visual acuity was 0.5‐1.0 in 57 per cent of the eyes, 0.2‐0.4 in 36 per cent and 0.1 or less in 7 per cent. Six eyes showed macular degeneration. Primary change of strategy into ICCE due to subluxation of the lens was made in two eyes. In four eyes ECCE and vitrectomy had to be performed due to zonular rupture. In 16 eyes iridectomies, radial iridotomy and/or sphincterotomies were needed to facilitate the operation. Sodium hyaluronate was routinely employed.
