Abstract

In most contusional injuries of the eye, the anterior segment bears the brunt of both direct and indirect forces. The iris, filtration angle, lens and zonules are particularly vulnerable. Most studies of ocular contusion relate to specific sequelae, for example, traumatic hyphaema, anterior chamber angle recession, lens injury and blood staining of the cornea. Lens injury is a major complication of blunt trauma and is seen in 30 to 65 per cent of cases. Commonly described lens changes following blunt trauma are contusion cataract and partial or total dislocation. Here we report a rare case of isolated posterior capsular rupture, and nucleus dislocation and absorption following blunt trauma, while the anterior capsule remained intact, which to the best of our knowledge has never been reported.
