Abstract

Editor’s Note: Members of the AAMI Sterility Assurance Level Working Group, WG 90, presented a poster at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Decennial meeting on March 19, 2010. The poster, titled Sterility Assurance Levels for Terminal Sterilization of New/Emerging Healthcare Products, was accepted in December 2009 to be presented at the 5th International Conference on HealthcareAssociated Infections. The focus of the Decennial meeting was to provide information for clinicians and healthcare workers interested in the etiology, modes of transmission, prevention, and control of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and adverse events. In this article, Trabue Bryans, co-chair of the working group, discusses the issues presented in the poster.
