Abstract

Objective: To evaluate patient outcomes regarding older community-residing adults who participated in a rehabilitation program following hip fracture surgery. Design: Retrospective cohort. Setting: A 20-bed inpatient musculoskeletal rehabilitation facility. Participants: 31 elderly patients consecutively admitted into the study. Interventions: An innovative rehabilitation model of care was developed targeting patients with cognitive impairment (ie, dementia, delirium). After staff was trained in the model of care, the admission criteria was revised on the unit to accept all patients post hip fracture living in the community, regardless of their cognitive impairment.
