Abstract

Setting: Community hospital. Patient: A 41-year-old white women with acute left lower quadrant (LLQ) pain. Case Description: The patient without prior injury developed a severe and disabling LLQ pain 5 days ago for which she was admitted to the hospital for further evaluation. She rated her abdominal pain 8/10, which was not controlled by her medication regimen of oxycodone (OxyContin) and oxycodone/acetaminophen (Percocet). Workups, including routine labs, abdominal computed tomography scan, pelvic and vaginal sonogram, and intravenous pyelogram, were significant only for a urinary tract infection, which was treated with antibiotics.
