Abstract

/\nnual weeds, pal:ticularly barnyardg-rass (Echin ochloa crus­ galli (L.) Beauv.) and junglerice (Echinochloa colonum (L.) Link.) are serious problems in th e production of sugar beets in California. The problem continues after the sugar beets have been thinned and the sugar beet foliage has developed to the point that cultivation can no long-e r be prac ticed without severe damage to the sugar beet tops. This problem usually occurs hom May to October in Central California and from September to March in Southern California.
