Abstract

This paper examines the divorce literature in terms of underlying themes which account for the scarcity of research on postdivorce relationships between exspouses. It also explores ways in which these relationships have been viewed. Key publications are considered in detail in order to illustrate these themes and views. This examination can be useful to persons who experience divorce, professionals who work with divorced persons, social scientists who study divorce, and political advocates for the family.
