Abstract

The opening chapter ‘Postcolonial poetics—a score for reading’ lays out the book’s understanding of its core concepts, poetics and reading. The discussion takes literature as a mode through which we understand the world and ourselves in it and therefore tries to avoid treating postcolonial writing primarily as representation. The book’s approach instead asks how postcolonial writing as writing, and as received by readers, gives insight into aspects of our postcolonial world.
