Abstract

Summary Wright (1983) introduced the class of QR-predictors to estimate a finite population mean under a regression superpopulation model. In the present paper we enlarge that class to include more general predictors and generalize some results in order to obtain asymptotic design-unbiasedness. Then, using first-order approximations, optimal predictors are derived, in a post-sampling perspective, with respect to the design-based approach as well as the model-based approach to inference for finite population sampling.
