While our country battles with COVID-19, the issue of post COVID-19 mucormycosis termed as blackfungus has emerged as a significant problem. India bears the dubious distinction of being both the diabetes,as well as the mucormycosis, ‘capital’ of the world.Mucormycosis is one of the several opportunistic fungi that becomes invasive and pathogenic in patientswith altered metabolic status in those who are immunologically compromised.It is of particular interest tothe dentists because of the presenting symptoms and the oral and facial defects that result from the courseof the disease and the treatment.
