Abstract

A phenomenological analysis is used to study the possibility of detecting a piezomagnetoelectric effect (PMEE) in centrally symmetric terbium manganite in sufficiently strong magnetic fields and at low temperatures, where the spins of terbium and manganese are uniformly ordered. Possible manifestations of PMEE, piezoelectricity, and linear magnetostriction are noted when a magnetic field is directed along the Y axis and elastic stresses σxy and σzy are applied to the crystal. The existence of weak ferromagnetism in the manganese spin subsystem is also predicted.
