Abstract

A new mechanism of the hydrodynamic vortex formation in the open many-component and multi-phased systems with possible phase transitions is proposed. We consider the nonstationary solutions of the hydrodynamic equations for a vortex in the incompressible viscous medium with a “bulk sink” of the substance and with unbounded inflow of substance from the exterior medium. These viscousless solutions describe the exponential or explosive hydrodynamic instability of the “rigid body” rotation of the vortex core. The vortex instability is considered as a possible mechanism of initiation and development of powerful atmospheric vortices, tornadoes and typhoons, in the process of formation of dense cloudy systems, when the intense condensation of moist air plays the role of a “bulk sink” of the substance.
