Abstract

Abstract We investigate the behaviour of the upper critical field assuming the presence of two condensates with two different critical temperatures. Using a generalized Ginzburg-Landau free energy for the order parameter we show that there is an upward curvature in the upper critical field, which comes from the cross-coupling of the gradients of the order parameter. We point out that the very large negative slope in the upper critical field observed in U Be 13 very close to the critical temperature can be explained by assuming that the system is close to a Lifshitz point.
