Abstract
The article presents a fragment of a study of the competitive activities of highly qualified men's handball teams of Russia and national teams of countries participating in the 2023 World Cup. It is noted that the leading teams of the Russian Championship perform positional attacks mainly lasting 15-35s, similar data were obtained in the matches of the teams of the 2023 World Cup. The relative short duration of attacks determines the high tempo and, accordingly, the effectiveness of the game. At the same time, a large number of attacks in the match of the leading teams make it possible to highlight high-speed and high-speed strength endurance as significant physical qualities that determine the direction of functional training, both for highly qualified handball players and for athletes of the nearest reserve.
