Abstract
Malnutrition is prevalence in regular hemodialysis (HD) patients. It’s associated with complex multifactorial problems that increase risk of morbidity and mortality. There are few studies in Indonesia that report malnutrition in regular HD patients. This study determined malnutrition prevalence and related factors in regular hemodialysis patients. This study was a cross-sectional study conducted in hemodialysis center of our hospital. The malnutrition status was performed by Subjective Global Assessment (SGA). All of the subject in this study also conducted measurement of anthropometric index (Body Mass Index=BMI, Mid-Upper arm circumference=MUAC), albumin, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride level, hemodialysis adequacy (KT/V) and also assess patient’s comorbidity This study recruited 85 subjects that consists of 51 males and 34 females with 53 years mean of age. Most of the subject had comorbidity hypertension (65%) and diabetes was found in 25% subjects. We found malnutrition in 42.4 % of the subject that is strongly associated with serum creatinine and albumin level (p= 0.001). We also found significant association of malnutrition and hemoglobin (p=0.007), uric acid (p=0.037), LDL cholesterol level(p=0.049) and MUAC (p=0.004). However, this study did not find significant association with dialysis vintage and dialysis adequacy (KT/V). Prevalence of malnutrition in this study were lower than study of Ghorbani et al in IRAN that found malnutrition in 45% by SGA, and our study difference in related factors. This study found high prevalence of malnutrition in regular hemodialysis patients. Assessment of nutritional status is necessary to be performed regularly in hemodialysis patients.
