Abstract

The present article deals with a theoretical reflection based on interpretative bibliographical research along the lines of Gil (2002). The objective is to formulate a concrete proposal for structuring and materializing an effectively democratic School Council within the framework of democratic public school management. In order to formulate such a proposal, it relies on official regulations that support the compulsory democratic management and the School Board in the Brazilian public school and works with the perspective of defending the importance of the participation of the school community in the decision making processes of school management. It also conceives the Council as a representative collegiate body that enhances citizenship within the framework of democratic management. The article uses especially the following references: Paro (2004); Luck (2009); Cury (2007); Dourado (2007) and Libâneo (2001).
