Abstract
This volume contains edited versions of the three background papers prepared for the International Conference on Population and the Urban Future held in Rome Italy in September 1980. Topics covered include the trends and prospects for future global urban growth issues and instruments of metropolitan planning and issues and policies in facing the challenges of an urban future. The projections of urban growth are based on both published and unpublished U.N. sources and are presented up to the year 2000. (ANNOTATION)
