Abstract

Endocrine disruption chemicals-also called environmental hormones that mimic normal hormones, affects function of endocrine disordered in animals and person. Vitellogenin is a useful biomarker to inspect xen-estrogenic, likes DDT, NP (nonyl phenol) and BPA (bisphenol A) in aquatic system. The purpose of this study was to investigated the probably of monitor xenoestrogen in apple snail, Pomacea canaliculata. This preliminary research detected vitellogenin in hepatopancreas of apple snail, which collected from different area in Taiwan. Our results showed that concentration of vitellogenin in apple snail of September was highest then February. It is therefore reasonable to speculate that the xenoestrogens in particular, released from agricultural activities, induced vitellogenin in apple snails, that maybe a useful biomarker to monitor of xenoestrogens in aquatic system.
