Abstract
Music and strategy refer to the planned and purposeful use of music to achieve specific goals. Applied in fields such as music management, education, psychology, and industry, this concept is considered an effective tool for reaching objectives at both individual and societal levels. Leadership is the process of guiding, motivating, and developing strategies to help a group or organization achieve its goals. In this context, choir conductors are seen as leaders who direct musical groups. This study examines the leadership strategies of amateur polyphonic choir conductors. Using a qualitative research method and a phenomenological approach, the leadership styles and strategic thinking of conductors were analyzed. Data collected through semi-structured interviews reveal that conductors make strategic decisions in choir management, handle crises effectively, and approach repertoire selection with care. Additionally, their efforts to strengthen choir members' sense of belonging through social activities are noteworthy. The findings demonstrate that amateur choir conductors’ leadership skills have significant impacts on the sustainability and performance of the choir. This research offers valuable contributions to choir conducting education and the management of amateur music groups.
