Abstract

ABSTRACT The therapeutic effects of polypeptides isolated from sea cucumber Acaudina molpadioides (AP) on the intestinal flora and glycolipid metabolic disturbance in high-fat diet/STZ-induced T2DM rats were investigated. The results showed that AP intervention notably ameliorated blood glucose, lipid levels, and pancreas injuries in T2DM rats. The diversity of intestinal microbial communities in T2DM rats was also enhanced by AP. Moreover, microbially derived short-chain fatty acids concentrations markedly improved in the feces of diabetic rats after AP treatment. These results suggest that AP played a protective role in T2DM rats by regulating glucose, lipid metabolism, and altering intestinal microbial.
