Abstract

Literature data concerning the structure of cyclooxigenase-1—a key enzyme in prostaglandin biosynthesis and the main target of antiplatelet therapy with the use of acetylsalicylic acid—are presented in this review. Data are presented on the cyclooxigenase-1 gene polymorphism, distribution of the revealed variants in different populations, as well as their possible correlation with biochemical and functional aspirin resistance.
