Abstract

Results are presented of a study of the kinetics of, and molecular-weight relationships in, polymerization of epoxides (propylene oxide and epichlorohydrin) by various Lewis acids. They show that polymerization of epoxides under the influence of different Lewis acids has much in common, indicating that the active centres are of the same nature. The specific nature of the action of these catalysts with respect to their chemical structure and the properties of the reaction medium, is displayed in the different reaction rate involved.
