Abstract

Tolan and diphenyldiacetylene were polymerized on the complex initiators Co 2(CO) 6· Phz.sbnd;C≡Cz.sbnd;Ph and [Co 2(Co 6] 2 · Phz.sbnd;C≡Cz.sbnd;C≡z.sbnd;Ph. The polymerization product of tolan is the cyclic trimer-hexaphenylbenzene. The polymerization of diphenyldiacetylene yields a soluble coloured thermostable polymer. By means of IR and 13C NMR spectroscopy, polydiphenyldiacetylene was shown to have the structure of a substituted polyene with predominantly trans-configuration on the double bond.
