Abstract

Polymer blends and composites have become a trend in current research. Many types of engineered polymer have been investigated, developed and utilized. However, to cater the needs of renewable, recyclable and sustainable issues, the focus had been moved towards materials which comes from renewable resources. Many research and studies have been executed to develop these new materials. This article was made to review the recent developments in the area of polymer renewable resources, which are divided into three categories, which are natural polymers, synthetic polymer from natural monomers and polymers made from the fermentation of microbial. In this article, details explanation has been prepared based on these three categories of renewable polymers. Discussion about the renewability, recyclability and sustainability also shall be emphasized. The prominence on potential applications could inspire more research and inquire about this special material, since it was cheaper, ecofriendly, biodegradable, and is widely used as a substitute for existing polymer from crude oils. Henceforth, the compilation of previous research related to polymer blends and composites from renewable resources had been presented as the outcomes of this article, with the additional prospect for future direction and references.
