Abstract
AbstractNew poly(p‐benzoquinono)diimidazoles have been synthesized by one‐stage polycondensation in polyphosphoric acid of 2,3,5,6‐tetraamino‐p‐benzoquinone with diphenyl‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid, diphenylmethane‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid, 4,4′‐oxydibenzoic acid, and 4,4′‐sulfonyldibenzoic acid. The polymers were characterized by infrared and ultraviolet spectral study, viscometric measurements, and thermal analysis. The effects of introducing flexibilizing links such as CH2,O, and SO2 in the backbone of the polymers, on their thermal stability and solubility were studied.
