Abstract

This study aims to analyze the self-archiving policies registered by the Brazilian institutional repositories, with emphasis on the guidelines established for subject representation. Therefore, exploratory-descriptive research was carried out in order to obtain the current scenario on the situation of self-archiving in Brazilian institutional repositories. It appears that most of the 108 Brazilian institutional repositories listed in the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) do not have a self-archiving policy that includes the subject representation. The seven identified policies reveal that only one has explicit indications about the quality of metadata, while the others point out the concern to follow the national and international metadata standards, or with some kind of validation before the deposit, but without mentioning the subject metadata.
