Abstract
The paper reflects briefly on the historical aspects of pollution control and discusses how the Board has ‘used’ its 40 years. It also discusses its organisational structure, the legislative controls and a selection of the issues it has had to deal with before moving on to the final section of the paper covering the future and the challenges facing the Board's successors, the Scottisch Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
