Abstract
The polarized absorption and emission spectra of Cr 3+:LaSc 3(BO 3) 4 crystal were investigated. The biaxial crystal of Cr 3+:LaSc 3(BO 3) 4 shows strong polarization dependence. The absorption and emission cross-sections are 1.68 × 10 −20 cm 2 at 654 nm and 6.13 × 10 −20 cm −2 at 948 nm for E// x, respectively. The fluorescence lifetime of 4T 2 → 4A 2 transition is 17 μs at 300 K and 108 μs at 20 K, respectively. The energy levels of Cr 3+:LaSc 3(BO 3) 4 crystal were calculated based on Tanabe–Sugano theory. The results of spectroscopic characterization and calculated energy levels show that the Cr 3+ ions in Cr 3+:LaSc 3(BO 3) 4 crystal occupy in a weak crystal field strength site.
