Abstract

Polarization reversal in lithium niobate (LN) with spatially inhomogeneous stoichiometry deviation (ΔcLi) obtained by reduction of annealing time of vapor transport equilibration procedure has been studied. The dependence of the threshold field for nucleation (Eth.n) on the ΔcLi has been measured in uniform LN plates. In the inhomogeneous samples, the threshold field for domain nucleation and immediate forward growth through the plate linearly depended on ΔcLi at the treated polar surface. The linear dependence on the stoichiometry deviation of the threshold field for formation of plane domain walls (Eth.s) and internal bias field for cyclic switching has been revealed.
