Abstract
Inverse photoemission with spin-polarized incident electrons allowing for different photon-detection directions under otherwise identical conditions also provides for, in addition to the energy-versus-momentum dispersion relations, spin character and symmetry identification of the bands involved in the transition. The potential of a new experimental setup allowing for these options is exploited in measurements on bulk and surface states on clean Ni(110).
