Abstract

Abstract Suspended ferroelectric grains may differ from bulk material because of small volume and weak dielectric and elastic interactions. By measurement of the piezoelectric voltage constant g33 it is shown that suspended BaTi03grains 0.5 μm in diameter can be poled to the same degree as coarse grained ceramics. Clamping effects observed in fine grained ceramics therefore must be attributed to interactions between grains.
