Abstract
This paper, besides a short introduction that includes the genesis of a fairy tale as a genre and its historical development, focuses on the analysis of female characters, present in the four most famous classical fairy tales. The paper brings the perception of the above-mentioned characters among the survey participants, as well as the comparison of some of the most relevant data. A special attention was paid to the female protagonists who are defined as flat and polarised, due to some of their characteristics, virtues, or vices. Furthermore, this paper brings the survey which analyses characters through their suggested contrastive, black and white perception. The focal point is the discussion of the results, explaining the reasons why female flat characters are perceived as such, and whether their deeds and aspirations could be regarded as socially acceptable in the present time. Conclusions have been drawn on the basis of the survey results, carried out on a sample of 195 participants, aged from 16 to 23, among high school and university students.
