Abstract

On August 17 1991, Poland was included in the global Internet network. It happened at the Faculty of Physics,University ofWarsaw, using the physical link from the University of Warsaw IT Center to the University of Copenhagen. It became possible because the Faculty of Physics was the first in the country to have an Internet network built under the COCOS research grant. The COCOS team was led by Roman Szwed, and Rafał Pietrak was a member of the team that directly configured and connected the national node to the global Internet.
