Abstract
Recovery from pneumonic plague is so rare that for all practical purposes the disease is considered fatal. For this reason a case of proved plague pneumonia with recovery is thought to be worthy of recording. Dr. J. H. was engaged in research investigations at the Plague Investigation Station of the U. S. Public Health Service, San Francisco, and had been so engaged for a period of eighteen months previous to his illness. During the week before the onset of this illness he had been working with virulent cultures of Pasteurella pestis but had neither inoculated animals nor handled any that had been inoculated, and he had not made any significant changes in his customary bacteriologic technic.
